ABEL FLEURY
What was the source for compiling Fleury's works?
SADAIC's records (Sociedad Argentina de Autores y Compositores) show the existence of 33 original musical works by Abel Fleury. This source was essential since many works composed by this man who was born in Dolores City were just improvisations to set a background to Fernando Ochoa's recitations in his famous evenings at the historical Radio Belgrano; and while some of them were developed up to scores, some others were never published or registered, or even worse, some pieces like “Venganza Gaucha”, “María de Carmen” and “Genuina Milonga” appear in SADAIC's records but are unfortunately missing. So, when I say I have recorded Fleury's complete works, I mean those which have been published.
What editions were consulted for the recording?
The original editions published by Antigua Casa Núñez, Ricordi Americana and the 1987 revision by Roberto Lara, published by Editorial Lagos, taking into consideration what in my view are the best parts, respecting the author's compositions and refingering some passages to obtain a clearer and more expressive final result.
Who preceded me playing Abel Fleury?
There have been several guitarists who dedicated time and talent to playing and diffusing the musical works of this composer from the Pampas. It is worth mentioning that some of them managed to do it within an unfavourable framework, because of the past prejudice against the repertoire inspired by native scenery.
Running the risk of not mentioning all these players, it is worth mentioning the remarkable performances of Roberto Lara, Oscar De los Reyes, Domingo Mercado, Alberto Manarino y Carlos Martínez. All of them recorded pieces by Fleury and contributed to their diffusion as well.
